PT's Blues Bureau stuff kicks! For the most part I have not been disappointed in what he's done with them. "Alligators" is the only one I haven't really liked, perhaps because it's not "bluesy", which I think is where PT is at his best.

I've been listening to "Just A Touch". What a great CD from beginning to end. I really like "The Riff" and "The More Things Change", as far as what is new to me. "The Pain", which I've heard live, is a classic and really hits at an emotional level, both vocally and with that weeping guitar.

I hope he's not done with them (BBI) as Mike Varney really knows how to pull out the best in Pat.

Thanks for the well wishes, guys, I'll give a report on the show next week, if Ed doesn't beat me to it! Don't know if it's going to be recorded or not, and even if so, if I'll be allowed to leak any of it! We'll see how it all goes...

Rockpig - Uli & Schenker have also added the House of Blues to their schedule, which is a whole lot closer for me than Ventura! Gonna try to catch that one fer sure!

Cheers!

Oh man TCF, I`ve got gig envy `cause of yer schedule! Hey, when ya see Eric and Rick tell them that it wouldn`t kill them to put up a post or two! Oh yeah, I`ve e-mailed a little known former PT drummer, Chuck Ruff, who happens to live near Reno and he replied back that he`ll be at the guitar clinic at the Reno music store, but that he has gigs lined up with his band Friday and Saturday night, provided he has healed up enough from a recent moter bike wreck. Chuck has also worked with the Winter brothers, Derringer, Sam Hagar, and bunch of others.

My lawyer said yesterday that the Bank of America really screwed up, and that I should have my 55 "G`s" back soon. Still, I ain`t gonna relax comepletely until the loot is back where it belongs. I was so uptight last week that I could actually crack walnuts with my syphincter. Peoples, let me tell ya that there are some really evil, evil people out there that wanna rob ya by any means they can.

"Paranoia strikes deep, into your heart it will creep." (Name the title of the song and you`ll win..., NOTHING! Name the artist that made it famous (a long, long, long time ago), and you`ll win a..., "Whoa boy!"

Tonight, I`ll be movin' and groovin' with my favorite locals, The Hep Cat Boo Daddies. Truck on out and spread the news! Get out this weekend and shake yer money makers, cause it`s good 4 ya!

Rockpiggie, I booked. I get into Portland at 1pm Saturday and leave Seattle Monday midday. I reserved a car too, but if I can hook up with ya maybe I can save myself a few bucks eh? lemme know -- I'll spot the gas and beverages at stops along the way.

My brother Jeff lives in Milwaukie, so I'll see if he wants to go to the show . . . if not I'll just start heading out that way after lunch at Portland Brewing Company, if I can still find it.

Gonna check into the little hotel I found near Birkenfeld. Gettin Bette, you need a place to stay?? just kiddin'!! : )

Randal...I just read the posts, but I'm at work. I'll ring you on your cell phone after I get outta here at 3:00. Probably be around 3:30 today. Definitely set me up for one of those rooms at the hotel for Saturday night. Also, I'll be working next Saturday until 3:00, which will put me in the PDX area around 6:30 or so. Wanted to tell you this in advance so you can make whatever arrangements you need. I'd love to hook up before the gig if it works with your schedule. We'll talk later today...

Big Ed...see ya there on Sunday! As well as the others! Darren, Sandy & Bette...are you making the Saturday gig also?

gREG...I just saw Velvet Revolver in Seattle last month. "Most excellent, dude!" (spoken in Bill & Ted lingo). Really good to see balls out rock & roll again! No rap, no pit bull vocal styles, no techno rock....real rock, real vocals, real guitar solos....100% no bullshit rock (sound familiar?).

TCF...I have tix to see the Deep Purple/Satriani/Thin Lizzy show in Seattle as well. Down in the pit...row 14, dead center...Can't wait.

Would love to catch Steve's ZeppAgain show, but that's outta my radar range. Have a great show Steve!

Ok it's on the SKYNYRD message board;

BLACKFOOT is planning a come back world tour !!

with Greg T. Walker, Jackson Spires, Charlie Hargett ans AXE frontman Bobby Barth instead of Rick Medlocke.
If this is true that would be great !!
Now while Walker is a partime base player for Pat maybe someone on this board has some more information!

Hey Rockbacon, got yer message. It's almost 3:30 and I'm in the office at 619 299 5453. I'll grab the cell out of the car.

Sounds like I'll just see you at the show. Mad Dog told me that Molly Hatchet bailed, so he's trying to fill that spot. He has three rooms left in Kelso, about 30-45 min. from Flying W Ranch heading toward Seattle. I'll call him and have him hold one for ya. Anyone else who wants to grab a room let me know - $60.

This guy told me that last year was pretty raunchy! The Run 21 website has pictures of the site and the surrounding area. LOTS of room for camping. go to

Hey Big Ed, I have your number so will call you when I get in. See you in Seattle if we don't hook up . . .

Saw Van Halen twice last weekend. All I can say is - they are back and rocking as hard as they ever did.

At Grand Rapids, Eddie became overwhelmed to tears during Eruption. Everyone was chanting "Eddie, Eddie, Eddie..."

At the Detroit show - the entire audience stood for the whole show - to include the people in the distant cheap seats. I checked several times during the show (I was 13th row) and they never sat down. I don't think I've ever been to a concert where everyone stood for the whole show. Pretty amazing. And just think... most of them were in their 40s!

Oh Man, I just checked out that run 21 website, and it looks like youz guyz out that way are in for a fantabulous time!!! Take lottsa pics! Hey, you guys might get to meet Dean Achers who did guitar with Eric and Rick with BAR. I`ve talked to Dean several times and he`s a cool dude and a major talent. Dean played for Brian Howe for 9 years, Brian is also on the run 21 gig, before hooking up with Rick and Eric. I understand that Dean later on re-signed with Brian. Party forward!

P.S. Had a blast last night with the Hep Cats and they told me that they will be in Kalifornyea over the labor day weekend to play at a big festival and will be opening for Roy Rogers, Roy as in the slide guitar specialist, not the dead movie/TV cowboy.

Andre from Holland.........yes BLACKFOOT will tour this year and next! Although the line-up will not include Rickey Medlocke of Skynyrd....Bobby Barth, who toured with the band in the 80's and also fronted AXE will step in and finalize the line-up with Greg T. Walker, Charlie Hargrett and Jakson Spires!! They are booking dates starting Oct. 1st through Artists International Management in Florida. Goto www.aimrocks.com for booking details........this is a booking agency that also books PT. This is going to be a powerful line-up with new energy for the music that made Blackfoot such a great part of southern rock & roll!! It's all going to happen again for fans of "Train, Train" and "Highway Song"!!!!!! I can't wait.........looks like Atlanta and Tampa may be the first stops on the tour, we'll see how tings shape up!

The price of a donation to a worthy cause: $20
Parking at the Beverly Center: $4
Seeing our buddy Steve and Zepagain playing Zepsongs with the likes of Bruce Kulick, Howard Leese, Nuno Bettencourt, Paul Gilbert and many others: Priceless!

Another fantastic performance. Nobody pays homage to Led Zeppelin like Zepagain.

Eric and Rick -- can't wait to see yer smilin' mugs again! I fully expect to get my ass kicked, and not by some biker who thought I was looking at his old lady (I was, but I was looking at her inner soul) but by the inimitable Pat Travers Band!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeayess Anyway, looking forward to seeing you guys rock the plantation at Futtbuck and then blow the house down in Algona! right on -- oh, and the first one will be my 20th PT show . . . way cool

Hey Rock Pygmalion, your room is reserved at the Super 8 in Kelso - 310 Long Avenue. Which I imagine is actually pretty short. Would you let them know I'm coming? I won't be checking in until after the show.

Pat goes on at 9, so you should make it okay. Me? I'll be there early with a " Suntan lotion $10 - Ladies free with application" sign and my digital camera. Yeah, I rather enjoyed perusing the various photos of days gone by out at the Flying W Ranch! Looks like a very relaxed environment, if ya know what I mean. gREG, you are not allowed within 1 mile of the place! Sin, sin, sin! Come to think of it, I guess I'm just gonna sit in my rental car reading the Word and listening to PTB.

NAH

guess which one I am??

Ed -- you don't have all the clipart we'll need to properly reflect what goes on in Berkenfeld -- guess it'll have to stay there. I hereby volunteer as the Official Pat Travers Band Website Photographer! Good luck being able to post anything! YIKES

Hey Ed,
Love that home page photo of Daryl's, brings back memories of that Coachhouse gig. We were at the center table right in front of the band thanks to Bette!

Rockpig,
We can't make the Run 21 show on Saturday but as ya say, the northwest chapter of PTB fans will see you & Randal at the Algona show the following night. Have fun at the kegger! You guys will tear the place up. Saw Randal at the Jimmy Z's show in December & he was partying hard, right Randal.

Traverschickfan,
Thats quite the rockin' August lineup of bands your seeing. Its cool you get to see the Pat Travers Band with Rick & Eric. I know that lineup is rare in you part of the country. Enjoy!
We recently saw the Deep Purple & Thin Lizzy show & what a show that was. Personally, I prefered Thin Lizzy but Purple rawked hard too.

Bid Eddie & Bette, it will be great seeing you again. Looking forward to meeting Nitrowolf too!

Sorry to have read a paper from last Friday that Arthur Kane, bassist for New York Dolls, passed away due to complications from leukemia. The Dolls inspired many bands (including KISS) after only issuing two studio albums. Most of the original members have died, except for David Johansen aka Buster Poindexter in recent years. If you haven't heard the Dolls, get some and dig their iconic punk style. If you have heard and like New York Dolls, try to get some stuff my the Japanese band Gasoline -- it's a crack up but just as rockin' -- me ruv you WRONG time

Darren, it will be great to see you and the other PTB Faithful in Algona. Nitro -- Rockpig and I will be the ones looking like we got our asses kicked the night before -- but with inexplicable $#!^-eating grins!!! Find Gettin' Bette, Darren and Big Ed and we won't be far away. Maybe we'll remember each other from Everett? I was there early too but made it through the show and for a bit after. My mistake was buying a round of Goldschlager shots (or maybe 3) for Sal, Ben and (I think) Mike of Wishbox. Luckily I was within plodding distance of my cheesy Travelodge hotel room!

Hey Randal,

"Too Much Too Soon" was a great NY Dolls release.
At the time, most of the kids at my school thought I was NUTS for liking them, but of course they also thought the same thing about The Ramones debut release. They all thought Queen were a bunch of queers too (Their words, not mine and only 1/4 correct!). Then "Night At The Opera" came out 4 years later and all of a sudden they were cool?!?! Oddly, Queen were becoming less of a "rock band" at that point. I loved being ahead of the curve back then...

Same with PT...I was WAY into ol' Pat back in the days of "Makin' Magic" & "Puttin' It Straight" when most people would go "Who???" (kinda like some folks still do these days!) but then "Go For...Live" came out and "Boom Boom...OGTL" hit and then everybody was saying "Hey, this new guy, Pat Travers rawks!". Once again I had to educate the masses that he had been around for a while! Wake up people! LOL!

Yep Randal...I'm with you on remembering Kane...

And as always...PTB is King!

Yeah Piglet, I heard the Dolls self-titled album when it came out -- '75 I think? I think the first time I heard Pat was when he backed up Rush in '77 - Spokane Coliseum. I went out and bought Putting it Straight, then reviewed the concert and the album for the Pasco High School newspaper, which I just happened to be a writer on back then. I instantly introduced my whole school of 1200 to Mr. Patrick Henry Travers!!

My buddies and I used to read Circus magazine, and we always knew who the new bands were and when our favorites were coming out with new stuff. It was a great rag back then!

Hey folks,

Just catching up after a big weekend of gigs. Sunday night's ABC Trust benefit was a blast! Ed, thanks for making it out & supporting the cause! You guys asked for a report, so...

Paul Gilbert was incredibly nice, and he spent some time in the back chatting with us about the Guitar Wars show with John Paul Jones, and other stuff. I told him that Gettin Getta was an excellent choice for an opening song, and he said that he loves Pat Travers, and how much he steals from him! Paul absolutely killed onstage, playing Song Remains the Same & Rain Song perfectly with my band with no rehearsal!

Nuno Bettencourt's band, Population 1, tore through Trampled Underfoot & Custard Pie, borrowing Swan to sing, then Nuno also sat in with us again on Black Dog. That's a definite highlight of my career, to be onstage next to Nuno, playing the harmony line to Black Dog, and trading off the lead! Same for Bruce Kulick, who sat in with us for Immigrant Song & The Ocean.

Howard Leese did a great job on The Rover, and Pete Distefano, from Porno For Pyros, did a high energy, almost punk, version of Communication Breakdown, which was a great challenge for my drummer & bass player to follow! And Chris Thompson sounded incredible, both in the opening set with his band, and singing with us on Rock & Roll.

I tried to arrange for Paul & Nuno to join us at the end of Stairway to Heaven for an extended jam, but it was too hectic, and didn't happen.

As a final highlight to the night, my girlfriend, Catherine, won the autographed Epiphone guitar signed by all the guitarists!

I'll let you all know when we get pictures posted online.

Cheers!
Steve Z

Believe it or not, the NYDolls debut was '73!! Punk before punk even had a name! And glam punk to boot! Ever notice how much Steve Stevens (Billy Idol guitarist) looks exactly like Johnny Thunders did while he was in the Dolls? They look like twins...

Sounds like we would've hung out together in school. I had every damn Circus magazine that came out back then and I also wrote music reviews for the school paper. Too funny! Here's a great story for you. I attended a Starz / Rick Derringer / Aerosmith (Rocks tour) show and wrote a big write up about Starz in the following school newspaper issue. Amazingly, I still have the article. About 2 years ago, I won a Starz CD on Ebay, and I'll be damned if the seller wasn't the guitarist from Starz, Richie Ranno! He didn't offer the info up front, I just noticed the mail to address as R. Ranno and I asked him. Sure 'nuff it was him. We emailed for a few weeks after that and I told him about the show I saw and that I had written an article about them. He asked if there was any way I could send him a copy of the article as he collected stuff from "the old days". I copied it and mailed it off to him and a couple of weeks later I received an autographed copy of the Starz debut release and and autographed copy of his solo release. By the way...he mentioned that his favorite gig from that entire world tour was at the Kingdome here in Seattle. Funny how small the world is sometimes, isn't it?

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it....

Also, the "produce" is a little scarce here in the Valley, but I'm going "grocery shopping" tonight. Hope to find some veggies for this weekend. Keep yer fingers crossed...

And as always...PTB is King! (And Steve too!)

Thanks for the review, Steve! Sounds like a goosebump episode, one for the ages! atta boy

BH, I have Starz' debut album and it's still one of my favorites. "Is that a streetlight -- or the moon?" is still one of the coolest lyrics in rock, in my opinion, but then so is "she reached over and she squeezed on my rocks -- I lost it all in the popcorn box (yeah)." I said "yeah my baby."

I never did see those guys in concert, but I saw lots of others. I was class of '79 -- btw Bill, my 25th reunion is in Pasco on Sept. 3 and 4. Maybe we can hook up on Sunday the 5th for a Grant's -- I wouldn't mind heading that way and maybe going on up to Chinook Pass -- beautiful this time of year.

Did anyone ever see Bighorn back then, who I believe was from Canada, or Child from Seattle? Both were excellent bands who didn't get their just do . . .

Hey Eric, will you guys have any shirts? I doubt it, but thought I'd ask. Gotta get with Bruce Frye to see if he has any left. I heard there's free "beer" a the Saturday show, but my guess is that it's gonna be Schludwiller's (aka Budweiser to the Northwest folk). I'll bring extra Heinies for me and Rick.

You all remember when Pat & the boys played at the Verizon Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, KS a few weeks ago? Well, apparently they played the 2nd stage in the afternoon with Black Oak Arkansas and Jimmy Van Zandt. The headliners on the main stage for that night were Twisted Sister, Warrant, Slaughter & Kevin Dubrow (Quiet Riot). Unbelieveable that the mighty PTB would be relegated to the 2nd stage under these bands?!?!?!? Well, apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the same way. Below are some excerpts from posts that concertgoers left at the ClassicRock Revisited website where a review of the concert is posted. I think that all of you PTB fans will enjoy these...

By Jeb Wright (*Review writer from Classic Rock Revisted.Com)

99.7 KYYS has been a staple in Kansas City rock radio for nearly three decades. They began as KY102 and were responsible for bringing all the hard rock to KC as well as breaking the careers of Midwest bands Missouri and Shooting Star to a national level. KYYS is attempting to keep rock n’ roll thriving in the area with the advent of The 1st Annual Biker's Ball. The show consisted of 10 bands for ten bucks. On the 2nd stage in the heat of the afternoon Pat Travers, Black Oak Arkansas and Jimmy Van Zant played. The closing act on Stage Two was a bikini contest. Unfortunately for CRR, we were on the highway while this was going on and have nothing to report. The sad news is that these acts should have been on the main stage. They would have been much better than much of what was to come.

Andrew Patterson
07/12/2004
Having Pat Travers and Black Oak play in the parking lot in the heat of the day pretty much sums up the lack of planning that went into this show. What a joke, and the second stage wasn't even advertised to folks who would have likely preferred to hear the two previously mentioned artists along with a full set by Missouri.
Would it have been that hard to get BOC, Steppenwolf, etc. to be a headliner?

07/12/2004
Pat Travers.....should have been on the main stage, he is always great! Black Oak......Jim Dandy needs to lose those spandex and 30 pounds but God Bless the man for still bringing it to those that wanna hear it!

07/12/2004
Pat Travers kicked everyone's ass...on the wrong stage! Jim Dandy can't sing worth a •••• and really needs to re-think the spandex and chaps since that emphasized his (as Dee Snider put it) inch dick. The Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band should have been on the small stage. Why put a tribute band on the big stage, and put the best guitarist in the land (PT) on the smallest stage! Made no sense. Quiot Riot was typical. I could take them or leave them. Slaughter, I thought they did a pretty good job considering how bad they were out of tune and how the lead guitarist played a solo in the wrong key.

Things are kinda slow here so lets see what kinda thinkers PT fans are....

There are 2 pieces of string. Each piece is made of a different material and are of different lengths. Both pieces of string takes exactly 1 hour to burn from 1 end to the other end. The speed of burning is not uniform throughout, so it can burn quickly first then slowly at the end or any random way. If you are given only these 2 pieces of strings and a box of matches, how do you measure 45 mins? The solution only requires you to burn the strings. No other actions like cutting, measuring , etc is involved.

I heard PT was listed for two days at Harrahs. Yes it's on the street, free as the summer show series. You can walk in right off the street and you can see it from the street, because it's 50' from the street. There is zero advertising up here on the show however...bla, bla. The Harrahs website says nothing about PT. So...PT cancel and I'll pick up the dates for an outside blast off at a Lake Tahoe casino. We have a full stage, not a flat bed trailer set up for Harrah's. I checked in this morning to make sure the shows are really cancelled, like the true die-hard that I am . . . Domino's may have to step aside for Ray's Golden Lion, a Mongolian BBQ tradition in Richland since 1978! Good news though, we have a tentative agreement with Pat and his agent for a SUN AUG 15 re-schedule. Your ticket for JUL 25 will be honored.

BTW, Ticketmaster originally did not provide access to the tickets on-line but we did get that fixed. We should get ticketmaster turned back on later today when we get final confirmation from everyone.

Hey Danny James...

I've read lots of articles regarding Pat's sound gear, and have never heard any specific mention regarding speaker types used. Only that during the arena days he used a combination of 50 wt. & 100 wt. Marshalls. Possibly he just used stock speakers? Whatever Marshall was using at the time? Maybe 30 wt. greenbacks? Anybody know?

These days, I'm sure it's not as specific as he's using rental gear at most gigs outside of the FLA area. Probably just generic Marshall cabs.

Glad to see Algona's Royal Bear has rescheduled. Hope I can make THAT date!

And as always...PTB is King!

Regarding the TNA release...

I just spotted this on Carmine's website on a message forum page. Straight from Carmine himself!

"T N A is out on cd in US on Oct 14 and Europe Oct. 2 tour starts sept 30..in europe..with lizards opening up for us...talk soon....CA"

The above message was posted July 25 at 9:39 am.

That's pretty damn current info....

gREG, I'm wichu -- the peekachu thing distubed me. The I realized I was already disturbed so I stopped worrying. THEN I realized you were talking about your fantasy babe, Palmala Anderson, and I became disturbed again! Put the Vaseline AWAY!!!!

Sounds encouraging on the CA CD . . . all we gotta do is wait. Pigman, it just so happens that I have to be in Port Angeles by 10 am Monday the 16th, so I will be passing through Seattle the evening of the gig.

Whether I can make it or not is doubtful, as the meeting is to save the project. I'd need a decorated driver to get there Sunday night, or a designated waker-upper to make sure I get on a plane to PA by 8 am Monday. OH MY GOODNESS - I SOUND LIKE PAT!!

hahaha

wish me luck

hey dannyjames, I'll see if I can find Pat's backline requirements, as I'm sure they'd answer your question. you might also ask Tony Lopez.

As to Pat's fan club, this is a version of it but we call it the Pat Travers Band Family. Thanks to Ed, Cindy, Rick, Eric, Johnnie Howe, Texasss Rich, Richie "Rich" "Ginbel", Blu Hawley, Tony Lopez, and Don Bernard and all the rest of us who have had our asses kicked and lives enriched by Mr. Patrick Henry Travers. As RockSausage can attest (and will), PTB is king!!!!

Hey dare everyone...Rock Pig or kid in "old mans pants", Randall you are tearing me up.....I get PT the 350 massive watts with over the top gain pumped through 4 hefty 12 inchers on a Marshall half stack then double it to a full stack. 2-amps in 1 design employs dual preamps, each with an ECC83 valve for totally independent amp configurations. Each amp type completely reconfigures its power amp section and has 2 footswitchable modes. Amp 1 offers clean and crunch modes while amp 2 delivers 2 distinct overdrives. This is the M400 4 x 12 cab, specifically engineered to reproduce the balanced mids and mammoth bottom end of extreme PT Rock and metal. Sonically optimized with pro-gauge wiring and all from Marshall. THERE HOWS THAT? oH AND PLUS A MODE FOUR HEAD mf350h.

Brian "Maybe" Thanksgiving with Led Zep Again. We are moving to an indoor venue, since you guys are so gal darn busy in SO> CAL> during August and it snows in November here. Love you guys. Crissy says hello and can't wait till next time...

I agree Bette!

The August 15th reschedule is as official as can be. 'Booker', Pats agent posted this to be true as well.

Sorry to hear ya lost some money because of the cancellation but it wasn't the Royal Bear's fault. They were disapointed too!

Back in da day he was using a full stack on each side o' the drum riser, with 2-12" EV's up front, next to the vocal monitors. Power was the old Crown 150's and 300's.

Now it's justa rack and whatever Marshall is avaialable at the gig......

Hey TCF, go to http://www.dreamtheater.net/ to get some great seats for the DT/Yes show! I got some for the show here in LA on Sep 19 yesterday. $125 gets you in the first 12 rows, plus a t-shirt. $250 will get you in the first 3 rows plus a pass to meet the band, but that was a little too pricey for me!

Has anybody else here heard the Schenker Pattison Summit CD? It's Michael Schenker and Davey Pattison, who sang with Gamma & Robin Trower, and the same rhythm section as PT's Power Trio, Aynsley & Gunter, and it's also all cover songs. I picked it up yesterday & gave it a listen on the way to my gig last night.

It makes you appreciate the Power Trio CD that much more! Not that it's bad, but first off, Michael Schenker only plays lead guitar, and someone else does all the rhythm tracks! So everything Schenker played on it was overdubbed onto the existing tracks. Not that his lead playing is bad; he's actually still a brilliant player, and that's what really saves the CD. But it still sounds a bit like a rush job. Whereas PT's Power Trio has a real tight, high energy "band" feel to it.

Ok, Monday morning, back to work!

Cheers!

Hey Bette,Darren,Randal & all the P.T. family: well, being without immediate access to a computer, I made the journey from Portland, to Algona. What a letdown! But those things happen, and the Seattle-Tacoma area is so beautiful, that it was not too difficult to swallow that bitter pill. I've been lucky to have seen Pat numerous times in the last 3-4 years; I was really into seeing some old friends! I did take the big banner that was out front, you know the type, about 10 to 15 ft. long, and about 3-4 ft. wide, with Budwiser logo, and big black lettering with,PAT TRAVERS BAND; if anyone would like it, I'll send it to ya. I've got to work for the make up show, so, I'll see you guys in the near future. PEACE !!! Big Eddie
